The objective of the seat conversion is to make a rapid improvement to the appearance and comfort of the business class cabins.
The dominant constraint on the project is that any improvements to seats must not affect the original seat structural substantiation or JAR 25.561 and JAR 25.562 emergency landing static and dynamic conditions compliance.
Improvements include all visible metallic parts on the armrests and tray tables being plated and polished to apply a hard coating.
The majority of the external fairings will be replaced with re-shaped parts manufactured from moulded glass reinforced phenolic resin thermosetting composites. All of the parts moulded will be stronger and lighter than the existing parts.
All seat, headrest and back rest foams will be replaced with higher comfort, custom engineered foams.
The backrest, seat cushion and leg rest dress covers will be replaced with new covers.
The seat will have new hinged outboard and fixed central upholstered armrests.
