A330/A340 Flight and Cabin Crew Rests

AIM Aviation has developed two crew rest installations for retrofit into Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft. Both compartments are located on the main deck. Both installations are approved by EASA Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs).

Flight Crew Rest
The Flight Crew Rest is located immediately aft of Door 1LH, in place of the closet and forward seat row normally installed. It provides one horizontal surface sleeping berth, together with a single forward facing seat and is certified to be occupied in flight by one flight deck crew member.

  • This location permits retention of a large galley in the G1 position.
  • The location has exceptionally low internal noise levels for the flight crew member, as it is not immediately adjacent to flight deck, galley or lavatory compartments.
  • The aircraft cabin noise level in this position is only 71 dBA and the crew rest construction reduces this further.
  • The installed weight of the complete compartment is only 140.0 kg.
Cabin Crew Rest (6 birth)
The Cabin Crew Rest is located in the centre cabin, immediately aft of Door 3 (L & R) and provides horizontal sleeping surfaces for six cabin crew members

The compartment occupies the space of 16 seat places, but saves the common allocation of 8 economy seats to cabin crew required by the Airbus optional curtained rest area.

The installation has no loss of main deck seating closet or lavatory capacity as it does not require a stairhouse.

Each berth has its own curtain for privacy; an independent switched reading light and PC power connection.

The compartment is significantly quieter than the curtained-off seats or lower deck options. It is located well forward of standard galley locations.

The main deck location means there is no loss of valuable cargo capacity This offers potentially 3-4000 pounds freight revenue per flight (approximately $700,000 per year).

The compartment is certified without a fire suppression system, due to its location (reduced maintenance costs).

The installation can be semi-permanent, but is designed for “quick change” installation (under 3 hours).
